Campbell Krausen

“Krausen holds her own among the leads. She is a great singer and strong actress, capable of showing all the emotions necessary to paint a complete character for the audience to sit back and enjoy.”

About Campbell

Early Inspiration
Campbell was an extremely shy child who spent her early years quietly coloring—until a tape of Cathy Rigby as Peter Pan changed everything. Her theatre fire was lit, and by age 7, she was immersed in acting classes, finding both her voice and her confidence through performance.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Campbell’s love of screen acting took center stage. She began exploring film and television work more seriously, drawn to the intimacy and nuance of on-camera storytelling. That shift expanded her artistic lens and led to dedicated study with top industry professionals (with a few casting, teaching, and filmmaking internships along the way). She continues her training in Chicago, LA, and New York, focusing on screen technique, script analysis, and audition prep.

Career Highlights Include:

  • Film: Ghostlight, directed by Alex Thompson and Kelly O’Sullivan (Saint Frances), which premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and SXSW.

  • Steppenwolf Theatre: The world premiere of Another Marriage starring Judy Greer.

  • Marriott Theatre: Played iconic leading roles in The Sound of Music (as Liesl von Trapp, in a Jeff-nominated production) and The Wizard of Oz (as Dorothy Gale).

Personal Life
Campbell is a proud Chicagoan who loves spending time with her close-knit family, including her parents, two older siblings, nephew, and cat. She’s an avid reader, writer, and apple juice enthusiast. She’s passionate about inclusive storytelling, ‘60s film icons, SNL sketches, and board game nights. Press

Campbell Krausen is magnificent as Liesl, and she’s actually “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” making her Marriott debut performance as honest as it gets. It’s heartwarming watching her budding trust and love grow for Maria. The scene between Liesl and her telegram delivery boyfriend is charming, humorous and realistic.

Campbell Krausen’s portrayal of Cosette is filled with light.

Krausen is the ideal, strong, brave, and loving Dorothy

The choreography by William Carlos Angulo is a sheer delight (there is not a lot of dance in a show about Nuns and escapes from Nazis). In the “Sixteen going on Seventeen” number with Liesl (an awesome performance by Campbell Krausen) and Rolf (Emmet Smith), we see a scene that is powerful and probably the best I have ever seen of this number.

Campbell Krausen, who plays 16-year-old Leisl, not only shows awkward teenage chemistry with Emmet Smith’s Rolf, she really seems to encourage and mother-hen her onstage siblings.

Campbell Krausen is a delight in this role (Dorothy Gale) and her “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” is perfect.

Jake Ziman and Campbell Krausen embrace the melodrama of the young lovers, Marius and Cosette. Ziman has some real success in conveying a genuine conflict in the character, who is torn between two equally attractive passions: political resistance and love at first sight. Vocally, Krausen’s “legit” vocal approach communicates Cosette’s sheltered, privileged upbringing, and there’s some real tenderness in her final scene with Valjean.

The children in the Marriott production are amazing. Each one excels in their role. Of them, two really stand out: Archer Geye as young Kurt and Campbell Krausen as love struck teenager Liesl.

Because of the acting and vocal demands of the role of 16-year-old Liesl, the part is usually played by an adult actress who can read young. With Morale’s Maria being played so young, it required the casting of a true teenager as Liesl. Despite being just 16 years old herself, Krausen holds her own among the leads. She is a great singer and strong actress, capable of showing all the emotions necessary to paint a complete character for the audience to sit back and enjoy.

Sweet Campbell Krausen has the youth, grace, and tenderness necessary for this role (Cosette), as well as a crystalline soprano voice.

Earlier this year, Campbell Krausen was a standout in Marriott’s Sound of Music, playing the angsty Austrian near-seventeen-year-old Liesl von Trapp. Now, Krausen finds herself not in the Alps, but in Kansas, and gives a smiling and wide-eyed performance as Dorothy Gale
